CHS Ecology Club

students at Deer Check station The ecology club recently visited the DNR deer check station on Mackinaw Trail to learn about chronic wasting disease, bovine tuberculosis and how to determine a deer's age. DNR employee Kathleen Keen spent 2 hours with the group as they shadowed her job as a deer checkpoint person. Students Hailey Wiegand, Anessa Liptak and Dan Trautner learned how to read a map for township and range, count the animal's teeth and examine wear for it's approximate age and how environment and nutrition contribute to overall size and antler growth.Students check in deer with the DNR
